The steering gear is basis of rudder control where it carries out the following functions:
The steering gear is basis of rudder control where it carries out the following functions:
- increase in the effort made for steering wheel;
- transfer of effort to steering linkage;
- spontaneous return of steering wheel to neutral position at load relief.
In essence the steering gear is mechanical gear (reducer) therefore its critical parameter is the gear ratio. Depending on type of mechanical gear distinguish the following types of steering gears: rack, worm, screw.
