Sorbic acid (food additive e 200) is a colorless, poorly soluble in water, crystals. Chemical formula of sorbic acid: C6H8O2. For the first time, sorbic acid was derived from the SAP of ash in the year 1859. From here, it takes its name (Sorbus LAT. — Rowan). In 1939 it opened its antimicrobial activity. And in the middle of the 50-IES of the XX century began the industrial production of sorbic acid and its use as a preservative (e) 200. Now, sorbinovu acid (dietary supplement e 200) on an industrial scale obtained by condensation with ketena krotonovym aldehyde using acid catalysts.
Food additive e 200 has anti-microbial properties, not toxic, not kancerogenna. In reasonable doses sorbic acid has a positive effect on the human body, boosting the immune system and helping to detoxify the body. Thanks to these properties e 200 additive widely used in food industry as a preservative, allowing to increase the shelf life of food.
