Chamotte (fr.chamotte) — the refractory clay, a kaolin burned before loss of plasticity, removal of chemically connected water and finished to some extent agglomeration. This name is applied also to other initial materials used for production of the ogneupor burned to an okuskovaniye of the powders mixed with clay and stabilization of properties of material.

On the applied materials distinguish the high-aluminous, corundum, tsirkonovy chamotte made with use of shamotny clay a brick.

In practice of art ceramics chamotte often call plastic weight on the basis of clays of different structure with addition of 30-40% of actually shamotny crumb fineness of 0,2 — 2,5 mm, and also the finished burned products from this weight: shamotny vases.
