Fire protection of building constructions plays an important role in system of fire-prevention means and actions. In spite of the fact that a metalwork in itself it is not combustible, under the influence of high temperatures their physicomechanical properties change. When heating metal its strength characteristics worsen, and it under loading can be deformed that will lead to a collapse of the building or a construction.

Fireproof structure of Sika® Unitherm® (Uniterm)

Materials of the Sika® Unitherm® brand well proved in the domestic and foreign markets as quality means in the sphere of fire protection of steel structures, possessing excellent decorative properties. High extent of fire protection is reached due to drawing a thin layer of material which is applied on a surface the same as paint. But when heating fire protection foams, increasing in thickness approximately by 40 times. Such behavior of material allows to win time against elements (till 2 o'clock) and to bring people in a safe zone. Fire protection of a metalwork

Metal designs in itself do not burn and do not promote burning, but at strong heating (for constructional steel 500 °C are considered critical temperature) are inclined to deformation, change of physical properties and loss of the bearing ability. As a result it can lead to a premature collapse of the building or its part during the fire.

Fire protection is applied to decrease in the risks connected with deformation of the bearing construction elements. Fire protection of a metalwork allows to slow down significantly heating of steel at the fire and, as a result, to delay achievement of critical temperature. It gives much more opportunities and time for evacuation of people and property, carrying out rescue operations and fire extinguishing.

One of ways of fire protection for metal designs is thermal insulation of the bearing elements by means of the put coverings (plasters or a plastering) or facings (fire-resistant mats or prefabricated elements, rolled materials, a brick facing, etc.). Such surfaces have constant coefficient of heat conductivity at the fire that allows to provide a considerable limit of fire resistance of a metalwork (from 120 to 180 minutes and more). But such way of protection is labor-consuming and significantly makes heavier the protected designs that in many cases unacceptably.

One more widespread way by means of which fire protection of metal designs is carried out, - use of thin layer materials of the thermoextending type. Most often in this quality the distending fireproof paints which visually differ in nothing from usual paints are applied. The principle of action of similar coverings is that under the influence of strong heating at the fire the layer of material foams, increasing on thickness to 40 times. The received foam does not burn and has low heat conductivity that repeatedly reduces the speed of heating of the bearing elements. The fireproof covering of a metalwork the thermoextending structures gives the chance to increase a limit of fire resistance of steel till 90-120 minutes (depending on brand of material and features of designs).

Since 1957 fireproof structures are successfully applied to a metalwork of the thermoextending Unitherm® type (Sika Deutschland GmbH, Germany) worldwide. Within already many years for protection of steel at the fire also fireproof structures of Dossolan (Daussan Group, France) which efficiency allows to raise a limit of fire resistance of constructions up to 150 minutes are successfully used.

The structure of Sika® Unitherm® is applied with method of airless dispersion or manually in one or several layers on a metal surface. The general thickness of the put layer can make from 0,6 mm to 3 mm, depending on a necessary limit of fire resistance and the specified thickness of the protected design. The structure allows to receive a limit of fire resistance from 30 to 90 minutes.

The fireproof structure of Dossolan Hoeco FII/1 is made on the basis of mineral microfibre with cement-like binding delivered in the form of dry mix. The structure is put with way of a moist torkretirovaniye with thickness from 10 mm to 60 mm, depending on a necessary limit of fire resistance and the specified thickness of the protected design. A fire resistance limit for this covering - till 150 minutes.
