Bromine
It is heavy (density bromine and more, than exceeds water density three times), the low-viscous, red-brown liquid which is easily evaporating at the room temperature in the form of red steam with allocation of the strong off-flavor similar to smell of chlorine and having the irritating impact on eyes and upper airways; it is easily dissolved in water or carbon sulfur, forming red solution; is less active, than chlorine, but is more active than iodine; easily connects to many elements and has the decolouring effect; at hit on skin causes painful ulcers. Bromine constitutes considerable health hazard and during the work with it all necessary safety measures have to be observed.
Application:
For production of the pharmaceuticals (anesthetizing also sedatives)
- as the brominating agent in production of reactants, high-pure metals
